Running Turo and Direct Bookings: A Calendar Conflict Checklist

When the same cars take Turo trips and direct bookings, the two calendars do not update each other. Rentovation's Turo calendar forwarding works one way only. You forward Turo's trip emails to a private Rentovation address, and a recognized email that matches one of your cars can create, update or release a block for that car. Nothing is sent back to Turo. So you have two jobs: block every direct booking on your Turo calendar yourself, and check that each Turo booking, change and cancellation shows up correctly in Rentovation.

Which calendar needs manual work?

Turo emails flow to Rentovation. Direct bookings need a manual block on Turo. Check the car and dates.
Forwarding works one way. Block direct bookings on Turo yourself and check each calendar. AI-generated editorial illustration, not a customer location or product screenshot.

Forwarding is an email link, not a calendar feed, and it does not need your Turo password. If a Turo email never arrives or cannot be matched, nothing changes in Rentovation until you act.

  • Turo trips: a recognized email can create, update or release the block, or wait in your review list. Verify each one. Trips booked before forwarding began need manual blocks.
  • Direct bookings: these live in Rentovation only. Add, change or remove a matching block on Turo yourself, every time.

What should you check after each booking event?

Verify what Rentovation shows after each event; never assume it.

  • New Turo trip. Confirm the block shows the right car and dates before you accept a direct request for that car.
  • Turo trip extended or moved. The block may update, or the email may wait in your review list with the old dates still blocked. Compare the block with Turo's new dates.
  • Turo trip cancelled. The block may be released, or the dates may stay blocked while the email waits. Offer the dates directly only once the block is gone and the car is open on both calendars.
  • Direct booking accepted, changed or cancelled. Add, change or remove the matching Turo block, plus turnaround time, the same day.

Two Turo rules make the direct bookings urgent. According to Turo's page on trip changes, Turo automatically accepts a guest's change or extension when the car has calendar availability, is not restricted or unlisted, and the request fits your advance notice, pickup and return hours, trip buffer and trip duration settings. According to the same Turo page, guests can request an extension up to 24 hours after their trip ends. So if your Turo calendar still shows your direct dates as open, a Turo guest's extension into them can be accepted without you.

According to Turo's availability page, you can block your Turo calendar at any time, but a block does not affect trips already in progress. Turo's trip-change page says a request for a blocked car is sent to you to confirm or decline, or is not allowed. So block Turo the moment you accept a direct booking. A block lowers the risk but does not rule out a conflict, so still watch for Turo change notices.

What happens when a Turo guest asks to run into a direct booking?

This is a made-up example, not a customer case. An SUV has a Turo trip ending Thursday morning and a direct booking starting Friday morning, and you blocked Thursday through Sunday on its Turo calendar. On Wednesday the Turo guest asks to keep the car until Friday at noon.

  1. On Turo: the car is blocked, so the request comes to you or is not allowed. According to Turo's page on trip requests, if you decline a request or it expires, the trip keeps its agreed times.
  2. In Rentovation: check that the Turo block still ends Thursday and the direct booking still starts Friday.
  3. Decide: decline on Turo. If a shorter extension fits before your turnaround, move your Turo block's start to that return time, then ask the guest to request that change through Turo. The extension and its payment stay on Turo.
  4. Without the Turo block, and if the request fit your settings, Turo could have accepted it without you. Then both bookings are real.

How do you catch what forwarding missed?

A forwarded email does not prove every Turo email arrived, or that a block moved. A short check on a set schedule catches the gaps. This is our recommended practice, not a product feature.

  1. Count first. If a car's upcoming Turo trips and its Rentovation blocks differ, find the missing or extra one.
  2. Compare times, not just days. A later return can overlap a same-day direct pickup.
  3. Check each changed or cancelled Turo trip. The block should show the new dates or be gone.
  4. Clear the review list. A waiting email may be a trip with no block yet, or a car Rentovation could not match. Assign it to the right car so later emails with that name can match.
  5. Write down each fix. Repeated misses on one car can point to a name mismatch or a forwarding filter problem.

Match how often you check to how far ahead guests book. If Turo trips come in the same day, check before you accept each direct booking.

Who keeps the car when both bookings are real?

Settle these choices before a conflict happens.

Which cars sit on both channels. The simplest control is to keep some cars for direct bookings only. A car on both channels can earn more and conflict more.

How much buffer to block. According to Turo's trip-change page, a guest cannot submit a change request that conflicts with your trip buffer at the car's location. Blocking your direct dates plus turnaround time on Turo gives you room.

What a host cancellation costs. According to Turo's cancellation page, US host cancellation fees are $25 more than 24 hours before the trip starts and $50 less than 24 hours before the trip starts. The same page says host cancellations can lead to account restrictions, from temporary unlisting to removal from Turo, and asking the guest to cancel for you still counts as a host cancellation with violation fees. Turo says it may excuse fees or metric impacts in some cases. Your direct renter is covered by your own cancellation policy; see what your rental agreement must cover. Write down which way you lean and what you will offer the renter who loses the car.

What you never do. Do not settle a conflict by moving the Turo guest into a direct booking. According to Turo's gray market policy, hosts and guests may not request, accept or make payments outside Turo, including for trip extensions, and doing so voids the protection tied to your earnings plan for that trip.

What does one-way forwarding not do?

  • It does not send direct bookings, changes or cancellations to Turo. It is not two-way calendar sync, and it cannot rule out a conflict.
  • It acts only on emails that reach the forwarding address, are recognized as trip emails, pass the sender check and match a car. Anything else waits for your review or has no effect.
  • It does not prove a block moved, and it does not move Turo guests, trips or reviews into your direct business.

Rentovation's page for Turo hosts describes the same one-way forwarding, and finding direct renters without a marketplace covers building demand that is yours. This checklist uses Turo's US help pages. Turo policies change and vary by country, and this is not legal advice.

Common questions

Does Rentovation send my direct bookings to Turo?

No. Forwarding works one way, from Turo's trip emails into Rentovation. You add a matching block on Turo yourself for each direct booking.

Do I need to give Rentovation my Turo password?

No. Forwarding uses the Turo trip emails you send to a private Rentovation address. It does not need your Turo password.

What if a Turo trip email never reaches Rentovation?

Nothing changes in Rentovation. A new trip may have no block, or an old block may keep the wrong dates. Check your Turo trips against your Rentovation blocks to catch the gap.

Can I move a Turo guest to a direct booking to fix a conflict?

No. Turo's gray market policy bars payments outside Turo, including for trip extensions, and doing so voids the protection for that trip.
